Well it has begun already, young rabbits are about and they are a month early. In Otago anyway they didn’t really stop, small infrequent litters through winter but now they are well into it.
All female’s gutted in the last few weeks have been pregnant and the ferrets have been finding quite a few young rabbits not much bigger than a fist. Also nests being dug up through the vineyards.
Because of this it’s good luck to anyone poisoning which should be well finished by now anyway. It’s a weak option at best and just proves a failed pest management plan, but this year it will really show how unsustainable poisoning is.
Salt after a kill up.
